Irish actors Ciaran Hinds, Stephen Rea, and Steve Wall are set to star alongside Emily Blunt in an upcoming western drama series.
ilming has begun in Spain for BBC and Amazon Studios’ latest production, The English, which has been described as a “high-octane, epic western.”
The six-part series will air sometime next year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and Amazon Prime Video in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, in association with All3Media International.
Set in 1890s America, Blunt will play Englishwoman Cornelia Locke, who arrives into the new and wild landscape of the West to wreak revenge on the man she sees as responsible for the death of her son.
She meets ex-cavalry scout and member of the Pawnee Nation Eli Whipp, played by Twilight saga actor Chaske Spencer, and together they discover a shared history which must be defeated at all costs, if either of them are to survive.
While Hinds, Rea, and Wall have officially joined the cast, little is known so far about the roles they will be playing in the series.
“The chance to make a Western with Emily Blunt and the cast is so delicious I’m still wondering if it’s one of those weird dreams we were all having during lockdown,” writer-director Hugh Blick said of The English.
“If not, a thrilling, romantic, epic horse-opera is heading to your screen sometime next year, and I couldn’t be more excited.”
