Comic book movies aren’t often synonymous with the Academy Awards. However, several Oscar winners have played heroes in the DC Universe.
Several films based on DC comics have had talented actors who also went on to win Oscars for their acting prowess. For instance, every actor who has played the homicidal villain Joker has won an Oscar (Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, and Joaquin Phoenix). And if that wasn’t enough, most of the actors playing the caped crusader Batman have also won big at the Academy.
Similarly, every actress to have played a live-action Catwoman is also an Oscar winner, namely Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway. However, unlike Phoenix and Ledger’s respective wins, none of these actors and actresses have won any acting awards exclusively for their DC superhero roles. Other DC heroes like Michael Keaton (Batman) and Michelle Pfieffer (Catwoman) and antiheroes like Will Smith (Deadshot) and Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn) have been Oscar nominees, but without a single win.
5 Ben Affleck- Bruce Wayne/Batman (DCEU)
Ben Affleck has never earned an acting Oscar but his sophomore directorial effort Argo proved to be a big success for awards season. Even though he wasn’t nominated for Best Director, Argo did win Best Picture that got him an award as a producer.
Affleck went on to have a polarizing yet iconic run as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, debuting in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Along with a cameo in Suicide Squad, he also played the lead in Justice League (along with the latest Zack Snyder version).
