Nowadays, when you see Gerard Butler’s name attached to something, you should probably wonder to yourself, “Who is he fighting? What crazy ludicrous situation does his character find himself in? And what’s the silly name of his character?” Each and every Butler film offers up a hilarious answer to those questions, and the boringly titled “Plane” is no different. (His character’s name is Brodie Torrance, for those keeping score.)
Seriously, for a film about a pilot who has to team up with a murderer to fight an army of dangerous rebels after a plane crash, the title “Plane” doesn’t do much to entice a viewer, huh? And boy, oh boy, there’s a lot of wild shit here that could have inspired a much better title, as seen in the newest trailer.
In the film, Gerard Butler plays an everyman pilot (you have to assume he’s a lovely family man, as well, which is a Butler staple). He finds himself caught off-guard when he discovers that his upcoming flight will not only have plenty of normal citizens, but also a crazy murderer (played by Luke Cage himself, Mike Colter). And wouldn’t you know it? The plane crashes and the regular pilot guy has to trust his murderer friend to fight a band of rebels in a non-descript, jungle-ish land. You know, because he has to save his passengers or some such nonsense.
This is a Gerard Butler film, through and through. And if this is something that interests you, then you’re probably down for anything the actor puts out.
“Plane” hits theaters on January 13. You can watch the new trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
In the white-knuckle action movie PLANE, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island – only to find that surviving the landing was just the beginning. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. In order to rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare’s help, and will learn there’s more to Gaspare than meets the eye.
